Chess Fork Puzzles
Practise chess forks: one piece attacking two targets at once. Free fork puzzles sorted by rating.
A fork is a single move that attacks two or more enemy pieces at the same time. Your opponent can usually save only one of them, so you win material.
Knights are famous for forks because their jumps are hard to see coming, but queens, pawns and even kings can fork too.
- Look for undefended pieces and a king that can be checked - those are ideal fork targets.
- Check every square your knight can reach in one move and count what it would attack there.
- A forcing check that also hits a loose piece is the most common winning fork.
