Chess Pin Puzzles
Learn to use pins: freeze an enemy piece in front of a more valuable one. Free pin puzzles for every level.
A pin happens when a piece cannot move without exposing a more valuable piece behind it. Bishops, rooks and queens create pins along lines and diagonals.
If the piece behind is the king, the pin is absolute and the pinned piece legally cannot move. Otherwise it is relative, and moving it simply loses material.
- Once a piece is pinned, attack it again - it cannot run away.
- Pawns are excellent attackers of pinned pieces because they cost so little.
- Watch for pieces lined up with the enemy king or queen on the same file or diagonal.
